Tom McKibbin won $845,500 as he tied for seventh in LIV Golf Adelaide and his Legion XIII finished second in the team event.

Joaquin Niemann shot a seven-under 65 to win by three shots from his Torque GC team-mate Carlos Ortiz and Fireballs’ Abraham Ancer on 13-under with McKibbin’s 69 leaving him in a five-way tie for seventh on six-under.

The Newtownabbey man (22) won $470,500 for his individual finish as Niemann pocketed $4m.

Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs won the team event and split $3m as they won by six shots from the Legion XIII quartet of McKibbin, Jon Rahm, Caleb Surrat and Tyrrell Hatton, who earned $375,000 each as their share of the $1.5m runner-up prize.

After winning $1.03m on his debut in LIV Golf Riyadh, McKibbin has won $1.88m from his first two outings.

Niemann ’s 65 was the only bogey-free round of the day.

“Days like today makes me grow as a player,” said Niemann, who won for the second time in his career in Australia, having captured the Australian Open in 2023.

“There is a lot I have to take from today and learn from it because today was a really good day. If I could have these Sundays more often, chasing leaders, it would be really good for my game.”

Legion XIII captain Rahm, the reigning LIV Golf Individual Champion, continued his perfect streak of top-10 finishes in each LIV Golf start he has made.

Rahm finished solo sixth after a closing 70 and moved to second behind Riyadh winner Adrian Meronk in the season-long Individual standings with Niemann up to third.

McKibbin is tied for 13th in the standings while Graeme McDowell is ranked 32nd overall after he tied for 37th in Adelaide on two-over after a closing 70 and won $135,285.

LIV Golf and the South Australian Government confirmed before the start of play that Adelaide will be the exclusive home of LIV Golf in Australia with an extension agreement through 2031.
