A garda investigation is underway after a man was stabbed to death in Dublin city centre overnight.
The fatal assault happened on South Anne Street in Dublin 2 at around 3am this morning.
The area is a popular location for locals and tourists with several bars and restaurants dotted along the street and surrounding area.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene and discovered one man with serious knife wounds.
He was rushed to St James’ Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. It’s understood the victim is aged in his 30s.
A second male was also discovered with less serious knife injuries and has been hospitalised for treatment.
Detectives are still attempting to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The scene has been sealed-off for a technical examination while CCTV footage from the area is being collected to be reviewed.
A source said: “No arrests have yet been made and gardaí are still trying to build a picture of what happened here. The area is well covered with CCTV which will be crucial.
“An account will be taken from the second injured male which will help establish how the victim was killed.”
Gardaí at Pearse Street garda station are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
In a statement to the Irish Independent a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí responded to a serious public order incident on South Anne Street, Dublin 2, in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 15th February 2025.
“A man who was injured during the incident was taken by ambulance to St James’s Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
“A second man is receiving treatment for injuries.
“The scene is currently being held for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
