King Charles is preparing to exercise diplomatic influence during an anticipated visit to both the US and Canada, a royal commentator has claimed.

The monarch and Queen Camilla are set to embark on their largest tour yet, visiting both the US and Canada in an effort to strengthen diplomatic ties between the UK and the US under Trump’s presidency.

Discussions between the UK and US Governments are currently underway, with an official invitation from Washington expected soon.

Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “A tour of Canada is important for the monarchy, but a tour of the USA is a big diplomatic deal for the UK and an opportunity for King Charles to wield his ‘soft power’.”

Bond noted that “relations with Trump’s USA are at a delicate point.”

She highlighted the potential timing of the visit, suggesting it could coincide with the US’s 250th anniversary of independence next year.

Bond continued to tell the Mirror: “I think he would rather enjoy being put to such valuable use…after all, it’s very much a part of his job.”

The royal commentator emphasised the significance of the Canadian portion of the tour, noting it would mark Charles’s 20th visit to the country.

She recalled a previous Canadian visit with Princes William and Harry following Diana’s death, where young crowds were particularly enthusiastic about the young princes.

Bond also shared a lighter moment from a past royal tour, describing how Charles and Camilla “got the most dreadful giggles during a performance by two Inuit throat singers” during a visit to Iqaluit.

The spring tour plans come as King Charles undergoes cancer treatment, with Palace officials remaining cautious about confirming dates too far in advance.

A contingency plan involving the Prince and Princess of Wales has been discussed, though the primary intention remains to have Their Majesties lead the visit.

This would mark the first visit by a British sovereign to the US since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II completed her fifth royal voyage to America.

Charles previously made more than 20 official visits to the US during his time as Prince of Wales.

Palace advisors are now working to finalise the details of this significant diplomatic journey, which will begin with the Canadian leg of the tour.

Prince Harry is currently undergoing a trip to the British Columbia whilst attending the 2025 Invictus Games.
