These dramatic photos show the moment a car went up in flames after its engine exploded in the early hours of this morning (February 15) in Bristol.
The Ford Fiesta could be heard crackling and popping down the road from where it was parked on Station Road in Shirehampton, at around 2am. Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called and extinguished the blaze, but the car suffered approximately 50% damage.
Photos of the aftermath showed almost the entire front bumper of the vehicle burned away, exposing the charred remains of the car’s engine. All the glass in the windscreen and windows was also missing, and the rubber tread on the front tyres melted into the road.

Thankfully, no-one was reported to have been injured in the blaze, and the fire service believes the cause of the fire was an accidental ignition in the engine compartment.
A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called just before 2am to what we believe to be an accidental ignition in the engine compartment of a vehicle in Shirehampton.
“We extinguished the blaze using a high-powered hose reel, and retrieved valuable items from inside the car, which are now being stored securely. The car suffered around 50% damage from the fire.
“We are now in the process of trying to contact the car’s owner to come and retrieve the items, but have not yet been able to do so, despite several attempts.”
