Actress Maya Woolfe, remembered for her roles in ‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’ and ‘Doctor Who’, has passed away at the age of 72. The ‘Auf Widersehen’ social media page announced the tragic news yesterday (Friday, February 14): “With sadness we announce the passing of Maya Woolfe who played Uli in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Series 1, Episode 11, ‘The Lovers’.
“Maya’s many TV appearances included ‘The Professionals’, ‘Bergerac’, and ‘Doctor Who’. We send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at this difficult time.”
‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’, which ran for four series over forty episodes, followed British construction workers emigrating to Dusseldorf. While Doctor Who needs no introduction, Woolfe played a receptionist alongside the Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davidson.
The actress was also known for playing Claire in an episode of ‘The Professionals’, a crime thriller series starring Martin Shaw. She was active throughout the 70s and 80s, but her last TV appearance was in 1994, where she played a secretary in an episode of ‘The Detectives’. Not much is known of her life after her acting career.
Fans rushed to pay tributes to the late actress, with one person on Facebook commenting: “So sad. Great series [‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’] and she was part of it.”
Another person shared a sweet memory of crossing paths with her: “Met Maya back in 1985 in a Theatre play of ‘Bedful of Foreigners’. She was really the first celebrity that I met and she was wonderful. Very, very sad news to hear.”
