A first glimpse of what a new Lidl store in Dungannon will look like has been released by the firm behind the project.
Sharing an AGI imagining on LinkedIn, Coalisland-based Clarman Architects stated: “Our first Lidl project we are showcasing is close to home in the neighbouring town of Dungannon, the site is located in the town centre at the junction of Ann St & Geer’s Rd.
“The project consist of a large Lidl store with a small coffee unit located to the rear alongside McAleers bar, the landscape around the site plays a vital role in producing a eye catching building, with the staggered and communal garden area located along the side of the Lidl store moving up to the coffee unit.
“The design of the site is to create a open but approachable scene making it available for all parts of the community,
“Keep an eye out for more Lidl projects that we will be showing across our social media.”
The new discount superstore will replace Lidl’s old Scotch Street unit.
The Ann Street site, spanning to almost 30,000 sq ft, is one that has been vacant for nearly 40 years.
The plot was sold for £3m in 2007, before the former Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council bought it for £575,000 in 2014.
Previously, plans for a £10m mixed use scheme were lodged, however, that never came to fruition.
Lidl celebrated its 25th anniversary in Northern Ireland last year, after opening its first store in Cookstown, Co Tyrone in 1999.
The German retailer has remained in the local news frequently in recent months, with continuous announcements of new branches opening, and last month the chain won a High Court battle over plans to open its first-ever pub in Northern Ireland.
After the legal battle with drinks trader Philip Russell Ltd, which runs several off-licences across Northern Ireland, Lidl is now set to open a pub in its Dundonald store – it is just a matter of ‘when’.
