Vernon Kay has discovered Tess Daly’s true feelings about his Valentine’s Day gifts after 21 years of marriage.

Back on the airwaves this week, the BBC Radio 2 host played out voice notes from listeners, who shared their plans for the romantic occasion.

The 50-year-old found particular joy in an admission from a listener named Jeff, who said he and his partner buy each other the “tackiest” gifts possible.

Jeff said: “On Valentine’s Day, we compete to buy each other the tackiest and worst present that we can actually find.

“There’s usually a specification, no more than a fiver or something with something terrible written on it.

“And then we send pictures of it to all of our friends and they vote on which is the worst.”

Chuckling at the idea, Vernon responded: “I like that, very good.

“I didn’t realise, but apparently Tess tells me that I’ve been playing that for years. I didn’t know.”

While he may slack when it comes to gift selection, Vernon has seemingly made up for it with a heartfelt tribute to Tess.

Over on his Instagram page, he posted a selfie of the pair enjoying time together on a boat, alongside the caption: “It’s Valentine’s Day! ! Here’s to more sun rises and glorious sunsets! @tessdaly.”

Gushing over the snap, Tess replied: “Love this pic.”

She also shared a throwback of her and Vernon on her grid, writing: “Happy V Day @vernonkay. Sending loving vibes your way this valentines.”

Vernon and Tess have been married since 2003 and together they share two daughters; Phoebe and Amber.

Previously discussing their long-term marriage, the presenter said it was important to have difficult conversations.

Speaking on Annie Mac’s Changes podcast, he expressed: “Put the kettle on, say it. ‘I don’t think we should be doing this. Maybe what if we do that? I’m feeling this, dah dah dah, dah’.

“You know what I mean? Like communication is the most important thing, in anything and in particular in a relationship.”

Meanwhile, in a previous Q&A with on Instagram, Tess revealed just how much joy their bond still brings her.

She shared: “I see when his name comes up on his phone, I’m like ‘yay’.

“We have a good laugh, he’s always messing about, dancing and singing in the kitchen. Never a dull moment.”
