The research showed that seven out of ten parents feel the pressure to provide excitement and fun for their children during school holidays.

But coming up with new ideas to keep their children occupied it’s hardly surprising that screens have become a popular solution.

Although nearly all parents say it crucial for their families to share new and unique experiences, they find it difficult to come up with new ideas.

Almost four in ten would be more confident in planning outings if they had improved access to information on destinations or better transport options.

Marc Pell, managing director of Tempcover, stated: “You don’t have to jet off abroad or stick to the same old soft play centres, parks and coffee shops this half term,” urging families to explore local adventures.

Tempcover has created a ‘micro adventure’ generator – enter your postcode and desired day out, and the tool will suggest options for an ideal journey this half term.

“Our Micro Adventures generator is designed to be a valuable resource, helping parents uncover fresh and exciting activities just a short drive from their doorstep” said Marc Pell.

While over half of parents make some preparations for school holidays, many also enjoy a degree of spontaneity, making the generator a great resource for those who prefer a more flexible approach.

According to the research, day trips are considered the most effective way to create lasting memories, followed closely by visits to the beach and swimming or water park excursions.

Marc Pell from Tempcover added: “The half term break is a fantastic chance for families to bond, which is why it’s crucial to make the most of it. A family road trip is the perfect escape from the daily grind and a way to create lifelong memories.

“You don’t even need to own a car with temporary car insurance you can borrow one for the day, or parents can take turns at the wheel to share the burden.

“That way, you can concentrate on what truly counts spending quality time together and making lasting memories.”
