A 49-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with animal cruelty after five puppies were allegedly left caged in a vehicle inside a garage as part of a puppy mill.

Peel Regional Police said they received information on Feb. 9 about a possible puppy mill allegedly operating out of a business near Dundas St. W. and Mavis Rd.

The next day, Feb. 10, officers went to the business to investigate and allegedly found five puppies caged inside a vehicle in a garage.

Police said the puppies were inside a van, living in “abysmal conditions with urine and feces throughout and no suitable food or water.

Ersin Misirlisoy has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to animals contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Police rescued the puppies and confirmed that no other animals are outstanding. The puppies are now in the care of the Mississauga animal shelter, where police said they will remain pending a “judical outcome.”
