An elderly man accused of raping and murdering a woman in Bristol 57 years ago has appeared in court. Ryland Headley, 92, is accused of killing 75-year-old Louisa Dunne in 1967.
Louisa’s body was found by a neighbour inside her home on Britannia Road in Easton on June 28. The cause of her death was recorded as strangulation and asphyxiation.
Headley is accused of the rape and murder of Louisa on dates between June 26 and 29. The defendant appeared via videolink from prison for a case management hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, February 14.
He spoke only to confirm his name. A trial date of June 16 has previously been fixed and it is expected to last up to three weeks.
Anna Vigars KC appeared for the prosecution, while Chris Paxton KC and Ed Renvoize represented Headley. Judge William Hart remanded Headley, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, into custody.
