One person has been taken to hospital as emergency services battled a blaze at a house fire in south Belfast.

The fire started at a bungalow in the Benburb Street area of the Village at around 8am.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said five fire appliances attended the scene including an aerial appliance.

A spokesperson added: “Two appliances from Cadogan Fire Station, one appliance from Springfield Fire Station, one appliance from Central Fire Station and an aerial appliance attended the incident.

“Firefighters were called to reports of a semi-detached bungalow on fire in Benburb Street, Belfast. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets.

“One casualty was transferred to the care of NIAS. The incident was dealt with by 9.46am.”

The street has been closed to traffic as a result.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: “NIAS despatched two Emergency Ambulance crews and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the incident.

“Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”
