King Charles has revealed he has given up skiing following his cancer diagnosis, telling a Swiss employee during a visit to Middlesbrough that his “skiing days are behind him.”
The 76-year-old monarch, who is currently undergoing weekly cancer treatment, made the admission whilst touring SeAH Wind, the world’s largest offshore wind turbine base factory.
The King shared his thoughts with Avzi Jusufi, a machinery expert from Basel, during a joint “away day” visit with the Queen.
The revelation comes after the King was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer following a routine procedure for an enlarged prostate last year.

During the same visit, the monarch received a Valentine’s Day card from a young girl who described him as “the best King ever.”
The King’s connection to skiing spans nearly half a century, having first learned the sport at age 14.
For around 45 years, he made almost annual trips to the exclusive Swiss resort of Klosters.
His dedication to the resort was such that two cable cars were named in his honour.

The monarch’s final planned ski trip was cancelled in 2023 to ensure he remained fit for his Coronation that May.
A source noted at the time that suffering an accident would have been “disastrous” ahead of the historic ceremony.
During his bachelor years in the 1970s, the then-heir to the throne was frequently photographed in Klosters with various companions.
In 1978, he visited with Lady Sarah Spencer, three years before he would propose to her younger sister, Lady Diana.

In 1980, he famously fooled reporters by emerging from his chalet wearing a false moustache, nose and glasses.
Charles and Diana made several visits to the Swiss Alps during their early marriage, often accompanied by the Duke of York and his wife.
The 1990s saw Charles return to Klosters with his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, where they were often photographed skiing and tobogganing.
Their 2002 trip was cut short following the death of the Queen Mother.
