Poland is home to one of the most extraordinary towns on the globe a singular street that serves as the residence for thousands.
Suoszowa, an enchanting village, has garnered global recognition for its exceptional design. All homes and businesses are nestled on either side of the main – and sole – street that stretches around nine kilometres in length.
Beyond the houses and shops, fields roll outwards, creating a striking patchwork quilt of greens and golds.
An aerial view of Suoszowa reveals a leaf-like shape, according to Katarzyna Bieda from the Gmina Suoszowa council, which governs the area.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, she explained: “Suoszowa is immersed in nature with lots of forests and fields. These fields have made us famous all across the world thanks to drone pictures in which our fields surrounding the main street look a little bit like a leaf.”
Asked about the reasoning behind the town’s distinctive single-street layout, Bieda mentioned: “The one street thing comes from the past, when it was easier for people to live on one street, mostly because of road communication.”
As of 2022, nearly 6,000 individuals inhabit Suoszowa, with the population counting 5,672 villagers, reports the Express.
While tourists initially flock to the town due to its unusual structure, they soon discover that Suoszowa has much more to offer for exploration.
Bieda noted the seasonal surge in visitors to their village, attributing the attraction to both natural beauty and historical sites: “Every year, especially in spring and summer a lot of tourists visit our village because of the local landscape and also because of tourist attractions such as the Pieskowa Skaa castle or our famous rock called Maczuga Herkulesa [Bludgeon of Hercules].”
Tourists are drawn not only by the unique 98-foot limestone column known as the Bludgeon of Hercules but also by the enduring allure of the Pieskowa Skaa castle, a 14th-century fortification.
Additionally, the local topography with its cliffs, ravines, and an extensive network of around 400 caves, continues to be a significant draw for those visiting the area.
