Tributes have been paid to a young Northern Ireland woman after she died while on holiday in New York.

Sarah Reid passed away on Monday after suddenly falling ill.

She had travelled to New York with her husband Darren for her 30th birthday celebrations.

Ms Reid, originally from Banbridge in Co Down, was a mother of two.

The couple lived in Moy, Co Tyrone.

According to a GoFundMe appeal, which has raised more than £65,000, Ms Reid “experienced a sudden and serious medical emergency”.

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart had earlier shared the fundraiser, which was started before the young mum passed away.

She later confirmed the “devastating” news.

In a post on social media the DUP MP said: “Sadly Sarah has passed away. Absolutely devastating for this wee family. Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers. Nothing prepares you for this heartache.

“A terrible situation for Sarah and so far from home. If you can please support this wee family please do. A local family going through the most horrific time.

“Together let’s help them!”

Posting on social media, the Country And Southern Gospel Team said: “We are saddened to hear the news of the passing of the young woman Sarah Reid who you all have been praying for who had taken very ill on the trip to America for her birthday.

“We ask that you all would please uphold Sarah’s husband Darren and their two sons along with Sarah’s parents and the family circle very much in prayer at this heartbreaking time for them all.

“We pray that they will know of the comfort and presence of the Lord at this time of great sadness and heartbreak.

“Our condolences and deepest sympathy and our thoughts and prayers, are sent to all the family circle, from all the Country And Southern Gospel Team and CASG Family.”

A funeral notice described Ms Reid as a “dearly loved wife”, “devoted mother”, cherished daughter and “dearest sister”.

It added: “Very deeply regretted and will be sadly missed by all the family circles.”

One friend described her as “beautiful in every way”.

“Beautiful, kind, loving Sarah has received God’s final call last night. Such difficult news to give you all,” they said in an online tribute.

The family are making arrangements to bring Ms Reid’s body home for burial.
