The Maple Leafs have revealed details on a docuseries that celebrates Black History Month.
The four-part original series No Apologies: Threads of Influence spotlights the Black trailblazers in the Leafs organization, past and present, and features discussion about the contributions of the Black community to the game of hockey.
“Hockey is more than just a game — it’s a culture, a community, and a sport that should reflect the diversity of those who love it,” Leafs director of culture and inclusion Mark Fraser said in a statement.
“Through this docuseries, we’re celebrating the contributions of Black voices, culture, and talent that have shaped the game while highlighting the brotherhood and influence that continue to push hockey forward. This is about honouring the past, owning our space in the present, and driving a future where hockey fully embraces and uplifts the diverse cultures represented in it.”
Among the Leafs participants are winger Ryan Reaves and alumni Val James, Grant Fuhr, John Craighead, Robbie Earl, Jamal Mayers, Andre Deveaux, Wayne Simmonds and Fraser.
They’ve been brought together for the first time since last year’s release of the No Apologies retail collection, which involves a collaboration between the team and Toronto apparel brand Too Black Guys. Brand founder Adrian Aitcheson also will take part in the docuseries.
The four-episode series debuted on the Maple Leafs’ YouTube channel last week with Episode 1, Brotherhood and Mentorship.

Episode two, Hip Hop and Hockey, was released on Wednesday; episode three, Celebrating Each Other (Celebrating the Present & Future Of Black Hockey Players) and Black Women In Hockey will be released on Friday; and episode four, Too Black, will be released on Feb. 21.
The series will be available for live streaming and on-demand viewing on Sportsnet+ and starting on Feb. 21.
