An unidentified man is being sought for an alleged hate-motivated assault at an Oshawa high school last week.

Durham Regional Police say the victim was at Maxwell Heights Secondary School at 1100 Coldstream Dr. – near Harmony Rd. N. and Taunton Rd. E. – on Feb. 3 when they were approached by a man at about 11:45 a.m.

“The suspect made hate-based comments and attempted to remove the victim’s headdress,” Const. Emily Mitchell said in a statement released Wednesday. “A witness assisted the victim and chased the suspect away.”

She said the victim, whose age and gender have not been released to protect their identity, suffered “minor injuries.”

Police are looking for an unshaven 6-foot white man, about 50 to 60 years old, with a heavy build and bald head. He was wearing a black jacket.

HUNT ON FOR ARSONIST AFTER WHITBY HOUSE FIRE

An unidentified firebug is being sought for arson after a fire was deliberately sparked Tuesday at a Whitby home.

Durham Regional Police say the fire was ignited at a house in the Rivers Edge Place-Fairmount Dr. area – near Taunton Rd. E. and Thickson Rd. – at about 1:20 a.m.

“Officers arrived on scene and located an active fire on the front porch of a residence,” Const. Emily Mitchell said in a statement released Wednesday, explaining responding officers “used their fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

“A small container filled with an ignitable fluid was seen on the porch and a window of the residence was broken.”

There were no physical injuries reported.

“Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with video footage, including dashcam or home surveillance, to contact investigators,” Mitchell said.

TRIO SOUGHT FOR VIOLENT AJAX ROBBERY

The hunt is on for three males who robbed a Shoppers Drug Mart last week in Ajax and assaulted an employee.

Durham Regional Police say the trio entered the store at 1971 Salem Rd. N. – just south of Taunton Rd. E. – Feb. 7 at about 9:15 p.m. and “smashed” a number of perfume display cases.

“An employee confronted the suspects and was struck with a hammer. The suspects fled prior to police arrival,” Const. Emily Mitchell said in a statement released Wednesday.

She said the victim suffered “serious injuries” and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police have released suspect descriptions but no images.

One of the bandits is brown, 16 to 25 years old and about 5-foot-10 with a medium build. He was wearing a black medical mask, black bubble jacket, black pants and black shoes and was armed with a hammer.

The second bandit is brown, 16 to 25 years old and about 5-foot-5 with a slim build. He was wearing a black medical mask, black jacket, grey track pants and white shoes.

The third crook is brown, 16 to 25 years old and about 5-foot-5. He was wearing a black medical mask, black jacket, black pants and black and white shoes.
