Sally Nugent expressed her concerns for co-host Jon Kay during the latest episode of their show. In Wednesday’s instalment, the pair appeared on television screens presenting the day’s leading news stories.
However, one particular segment sparked a discussion between the two, featuring Will Hurley, chief executive of the International Parking Community, and Simon Williams from the RAC, as they explored the topic of parking fines.
Without hesitation, Jon initiated the conversation by stating: “We’re going to talk about something now that affects pretty much everyone, parking fines, because two bodies that represent private car parks say they’re going to change the rules to allow motorists more time to pay for parking.”
Sally followed up: “This is all about the five minute rule, which is how long you get between entering certain types of car parks and then making a payment.”

Jon clarified: “It applies to privately owned car parks, where there are those fixed cameras monitoring when you drive in and when you drive out but not those controlled by council or patrolled by a warden”, reports the Express.
Sally added: “Now that limited time period can be a problem for people with mobility issues, young children or maybe when the phone signal is poor and you’re trying to use a payment app.”
Jon seized the moment to discuss their recent parking ordeal, confessing: “I keep thinking about that car park we were in yesterday” to which Sally responded: “I know.”

Jon went on: “And I paid for that extra hour.” Sharing her concerns, Sally continued: “I am a little bit worried. Did you pay for that extra hour? I paid for the first bit.”
Jon assured her: “I did, I paid for that extra hour.” However, Sally remained sceptical, questioning: “Are you sure? ” while Jon reassured: “We’ll let you know.” Sally cautioned him: “You better not get a fine.”
Attempting to bring some humour to the situation, Jon quipped: “Should we take Will’s number?” as Sally suggested: “One way to avoid parking problems is of course to leave your car at home and cycle or walk instead” prompting Jon to reflect: “Maybe we should have done that.”
