Salmon Arm RCMP said it got a call just after 2 p.m. on Saturday that a man had fallen through the ice on Shuswap Lake between Raven subdivision and Sandy Point.
An extensive search was launched by search and rescue teams and the fire department. RCMP divers were also called in.
The man’s body was found late Monday afternoon.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy that has deeply affected the family, first responders, and the community,” said Staff Sgt. Simon Scott of Salmon Arm RCMP in a statement on Tuesday. “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the young man during this incredibly difficult time.”
Police urged the public to avoid frozen lakes and bodies of water even if the ice appears stable as changing temperatures and unpredictable ice conditions may cause hazardous conditions.
