An 81-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a dump truck on Tuesday morning in North York.

The incident happened at 10:44 a.m. at Wilson Ave. and Collinson Blvd., in the Hwy. 401 and Bathurst. St. area.

“(She) was walking through the crosswalk, northbound on Wilson Avenue, when she was struck by a dump truck that was turning right on Wilson Avenue eastbound,” Toronto Police Duty Insp. Brian Maslowski told reporters at the scene.

“Citizens in the area immediately attempted first aid but unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries.

The dump truck driver remained on the scene and is cooperating, but police said it was too early to tell if there would be any charges.

“Our hearts go out to the family of this woman who was struck and we just ask people, especially with the weather, just to drive safely, take your time,” he added.

Police traffic reconstructionists were working the scene and ask anyone who was in the area of the 401 westbound off-ramp at Bathurst and Wilson around 10:45 a.m. to call Traffic Services at 416-808-1900.

Any dashcam footage is also welcome.

Police were advising drivers to use alternate routes as the 401 westbound off-ramp to Wilson was closed for the investigation.
