Fans and pundits have been breaking down the disastrous performance of the Kansas City Chiefs since they failed miserably in their bid for a Super Bowl three-peat on Sunday night.

Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been at the centre of the criticism after having one of the worst games of his career.

While many have been quick to point out that he didn’t get much help from his offensive line or from his receivers, there’s a new reason circulating for his poor performance: Voodoo.

A clip of a female Philadelphia Eagles fan stabbing what appears to be a voodoo doll of Mahomes during Sunday’s big game has gone viral on social media.

The woman, who is wearing a green shirt and Eagles lanyard, can be seen holding a small doll that is outfitted in a white jersey with the No. 15 in red and yellow on it and repeatedly sticking it with a pin.

New Orleans, where the game took place, is known for its deep cultural ties to the religion of voodoo as well as witchcraft.

Mahomes finished the game having completed 21 of his 32 pass attempts for 257 yards and three touchdowns. However, much of those positive numbers came late in the game when the Eagles had amassed an insurmountable lead.

The Chiefs had been shut out in the first half of the game with Mahomes completing just six of his 14 passes for 33 yards. He also threw two interceptions in his own territory, with Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean returning one for a touchdown.

Mahomes finished the game with a quarterback rating of 11.4, the second-lowest of his career.

While he took responsibility for the loss, the star quarterback was under constant pressure during the game from the Philadelphia pass rush, who were in his face despite not blitzing for the entire game.

The Eagles won 40-22 to clinch the franchise’s second-ever Super Bowl.

It has not been confirmed whether the woman had voodoo dolls made for other Chiefs players.
