Carol Kirkwood experienced an unexpected sign-off when her BBC Breakfast co-presenters, Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, wrapped up her weather segment on Tuesday’s (11 February) episode of the popular BBC One morning show.

Carol provided the latest weather updates to TV viewers when Jon and Sally returned to steer the programme. As Carol concluded, the hosts bid her farewell but were quick to notice she was taken off-air rather abruptly.

“OK, thanks, Carol. Thanks for this morning,” remarked Jon just before Carol vanished from the screen. He and Sally then debated if they might have ended her spot prematurely, prompting them to apologise to their colleague.

Sally mused: “Think we just cut her off ever so slightly there. How did we do that? That’s not good!”

Jon playfully retorted, “If she’s lucky, we’ll bring her back tomorrow. She’s got to be good in the meantime!” This prompted a response from Sally, ensuring the audience that Carol would indeed return, reports the Express.

Sally quickly added: “She’s definitely coming back. She’s not going anywhere.”

The light-hearted incident came amidst critique from BBC viewers regarding Tuesday’s broadcast of BBC Breakfast. People expressed on social media that the programme could do with a “revamp”.

Such views emerged after Jon and Sally invited viewers to submit their best jokes, which was meant to lighten the mood during Tuesday’s show, a move that unfortunately didn’t resonate well with some fans.

“No more jokes. Sorry, #BBCBreakfast, you lost me at ‘send in your own jokes’. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel this morning – the full gamut from gloom and doom news to mindless trivia. Time for a complete revamp,” voiced one viewer, distinctly unimpressed by the day’s format.

Another viewer chimed in, “#BBCBreakfast We haven’t done any journalism today, so please send in your favourite puns.” A third viewer quipped, “@BBCBreakfast As you’re covering jokes today, my dog was doing so well in the Tour de France til the Chien came off. “

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am on weekdays
