Translink has condemned an assault involving a member of staff after an incident at Lanyon Place station on Sunday evening.

Police confirmed a 51-year-old man was charged following the incident and appeared in court on Monday.

Translink confirmed a reward for information in the case has also been offered.

In a statement, a Translink spokesperson said: “We completely condemn this incident involving a staff member at Lanyon Place station last night.

“The safety of our customers, staff and the wider public is our top priority at all times and the vast majority of our passengers experience safe and comfortable journeys.

“All our staff have the right to work without fear of abuse or violence.

“We are assisting the PSNI investigation, including provision of CCTV.

“We also offer a reward of up to £1,000 for anyone prepared to give evidence which leads to a conviction.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “A 51-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and disorderly behaviour following a report of an assault in the east Bridge Street area of Belfast yesterday evening, Sunday 9th February.

“He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday 10th February.

“As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
