Patrick Mahomes appeared to snub team-mate Samaje Perine during an emotional moment following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chiefs quarterback was seen walking down the bench showing affection to his teammates in the closing stages of Sunday’s loss.
However, when Mahomes reached backup running back Perine, who had stood up to greet him, the quarterback skipped past him and went straight to embrace tight end Travis Kelce instead.
The apparent snub was captured on camera and quickly drew attention on social media.

Fans on social media were quick to criticise the quarterback’s actions.
“That’s weird as hell,” wrote one user on X, whilst another called Mahomes “a loser” for ignoring his teammate.
“That is weird. He even stood up to greet him,” another fan commented.
Others defended Mahomes, however, suggesting the interaction was not intentional.
“I think he saw Kelce and missed him but I feel bad for Perine damn,” one supporter posted on X.

The incident appeared uncharacteristic, as Mahomes showed no signs of animosity towards Perine in his post-match comments.
The Chiefs’ hopes of securing a historic three-peat were dashed in a 40-22 defeat to the Eagles.
Mahomes endured a difficult afternoon against Philadelphia’s aggressive defence, being sacked six times and committing three turnovers.
The Eagles’ defence proved relentless throughout the match, with Mahomes struggling to find his usual rhythm.

The turnovers proved particularly costly, as Philadelphia capitalised on the Chiefs’ early mistakes to build momentum.
Speaking after the game, Mahomes took full responsibility for the defeat.
“Credit to the Eagles man,” he said. “They played better than us from start to finish.”
The quarterback was particularly critical of his own performance.

“We didn’t start how we wanted to. Obviously the turnovers hurt and I take all the blame for that,” Mahomes admitted.
“Those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game and they capitalised. They scored on one and then they got a touchdown immediately after.
“That’s 14 points that I sort of gave them and it’s hard to come back from that in the Super Bowl.”
Mahomes also reflected on the lasting impact of Super Bowl defeats on his career.
“Anytime you lose a Super Bowl, it’s the worst thing in the world. It will stick with you for the rest of your career,” he said.

“You only get so few of these [Super Bowls], and you have to capitalise on them and it probably hurts more than the wins feel good.
“It’s going to hurt for a while, but how can you respond from it?”
