A creative mum-of-three, has amazed fellow parents by converting an under-stairs cupboard into the ultimate children‘s playroom.
In many homes, there is always that one spot that becomes a go-to for all the bits and bobs without a proper place – be it toys, clothing, or school-related items. But Nicole Elliott has shown that with a bit of imagination, these nooks can serve multiple purposes, fulfilling both storage and living space needs.
Faced with limited space and the high costs of renovations, Nicole initially doubted she could provide a dedicated play area for her kids. Determined to make the most of what she had, she bravely took to transforming an otherwise mundane part of her house.
Nicole shared the transformation journey on social media, expressing: “Making big memories in tiny ways. When you don’t have a lot of space, especially for a playroom, sometimes you’ve got to think outside the box and be fearless.”
Previously just a standard space with simplistic white walls and wooden flooring — the sort where one might store winter clothing or festive adornments — the cupboard now boasts vibrant features to enchant her children. With a soft playmat laid out, comfy child-sized furniture, alphabet decor adorning the wall, a modest bookshelf, a myriad of toys, a timely clock, and even a moon and stars picture from Amazon that illuminates in the dark, the tiny room is now a delightful play haven.
Nicole, who has amassed over 21,000 followers on her Instagram account @havefunandplay, also installed a blackboard on the wall and created a small door in the side of the wall for easy access. The transformation of the cupboard has left people in awe at its improvement.
Hundreds have flocked to comment on the post, with one saying: “This is amazing,” Another remarked: “You absolutely killed it. Love the constellations and the house on the inside. Seriously such a fun space.”
Someone else exclaimed: “Oh my god, I love that! My girl would never come out!” “Wow that is really well done,” another agreed. “This is so clever,” praised another commenter.
Echoing Nicole’s creativity, one person shared: “We turned our under the closet stairs into a playroom! Best thing we ever did.”
“I was thinking of doing the same,” said another. A nostalgic comment read: “My mom did this for my son under her stairs. He is 18 now… and we just rediscovered it helping her get Christmas decor out during the holidays. He hadn’t been in there since he was like 8. He had tears streaming down his face.”
