A former Bristol police constable convicted of suffocation and controlling and coercive behaviour faces a misconduct hearing. PC Mitchell Curtis was found guilty by a jury in November after a five-week trial at Gloucester Crown Court.
He has now been accused of gross misconduct by Avon & Somerset Police. Jurors convicted the ex-officer of two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour, intentional suffocation and criminal damage after hearing he was physically, emotionally and verbally abusive towards the victim.
A notice publicising the misconduct hearing on the force website said former PC Curtis also admitted taking an illegal drug while off-duty. It said he breached the standards of professional behaviour in terms of honesty and integrity; authority, respect and courtesy; and discreditable conduct.
The notice said: “It is contended that (if proven) the allegations amount to gross misconduct.” The hearing takes place at police headquarters in Portishead on Wednesday, February 19.
