Donald Trump has said that he does not view JD Vance as his successor and declined to endorse him in 2028.
The President said that it is “too early” to give his backing to his Vice President, despite him doing a “fantastic job”.
Speaking to Fox News in a segment of his Super Bowl interview that is set to air tonight, the President was asked if Vance would be his first pick to be the Republican nominee in 2028.
“No, but he’s very capable. I think you have a lot of very capable people,” Trump said.

“So far, I think he’s doing a fantastic job. It’s too early, we’re just starting,” Trump continued.
Baier responded: “By the time we get to get to the midterms, [Vance] is going to be looking for an endorsement.”
However, Trump deflected from the question. He said: “A lot of people have said that this has been the greatest opening — almost three weeks — in the history of the presidency.”
In 2029, Trump is constitutionally obligated to leave office following his second term.

The President frequently muses that he could change the Constitution to serve a third term.
Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian, said: “It serves Donald Trump’s public relations to start the bantam rooster crowing that he may serve a third term because it makes him not a lame duck.
“It insinuates that he’s one of the greats like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, that the people are demanding another term.”
Vance, who is currently in Paris attending a summit on artificial intelligence, is the third-youngest Vice President in US history.
He was selected by Trump to be his running mate in July at the urging of Trump’s first son, Donald Trump Jr.

Trump’s previous Vice President was Mike Pence, though the two fell out after Pence refused to block the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential win.
In December, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Leader of the Opposition Kemi Badenoch separately met with the Vice President.
Discussing the meeting, Farage told GB News: “I have known him for 14 years, Kemi Badenoch has known him a fortnight.”
“I met with JD. I have know JD since 2010, I knew him way before he was getting into politics.
“He is a friend of mine, I spent quite a lot of time with him. I have known him for 14 years, Kemi Badenoch has known him for a fortnight. Nobody in the Labour Party knows him at all.
“All I have said is that I will help this government with contacts, it isn’t just Trump and JD half the cabinet are friends of mine.
“If I could do that and it is in the national interest to do that then I will do it. No question about it, I do not support Keir Starmer’s government but I do support us having good trade links with America.”
