The bad blood between President Donald Trump and Taylor Swift doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
Swift was in attendance Sunday night to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs. But when she was shown on the jumbotron inside Caesars Superdome, the pop star was met with boos from Philadelphia Eagles fans.
It was a reaction the Cruel Summer singer wasn’t used to hearing.
“What’s going on?” she mouthed to rapper Ice Spice, who was seated next to her, greeting the jeers with a disbelieving side-eyed glance.
It stood in stark contrast to last year’s Super Bowl to the cheers Swift heard, when she flew back from Japan to support Kelce’s Chiefs in Las Vegas.
Swift may have been surprised, but Trump was not. The recently re-elected Republican became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl in the event’s 59-year history and was embraced warmly by the crowd.
After he reiterated his desire to make Canada a 51st state in an interview with Fox News earlier in the day on Sunday, Trump made an appearance at the big game, standing and saluting during the performance of America’s national anthem, where he drew loud cheers when he was shown on the jumbotron.
On X, Libs of TikTok showed clips of fan reactions to both him and Swift, writing, “Trump gets massive cheers at the Super Bowl while Taylor Swift gets booed – The world is healing.”
Later, the account shared a clip of Trump’s political rival Kamala Harris attending a Los Angeles Lakers game Thursday night and the crowd’s disinterest. “Kamala Harris went to a Lakers game—no one even noticed. Trump shows up at the Super Bowl, and the whole stadium goes wild,” they wrote. “Trump is a real leader.”
With the Eagles ahead the entire game, Trump — whopraised Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, calling him a “great, great quarterback” and a player who “really knows how to win”— left the Super Bowl in the third quarter. But that didn’t stop him from poking fun at Swift for getting booed.
“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump also shared side-by-side videos of how the crowd received both him and Swift, indirectly implying he had been greeted with a hero-like welcome.
Swift had long kept quiet about politics, but the 14-time Grammy winner broke her silence in 2018 when she announced she was voting for two Tennessee Democrats.
After previously calling her “fantastic” and “terrific,” Trump was miffed at her public declarations. “Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now, OK?” he said.
In 2020, after Trump tweeted threats at George Floyd protesters in Minnesota, she accused the commander-in-chief of “stoking the fires of white supremacy” and promised to use her voice against him in that year’s presidential election.
Tensions between the two resurfaced again in 2023 after Swift started dating Kelce. Trump weighed in on the relationship between the pop superstar and the 10-time Pro Bowler during an interview with the Daily Caller.
“I wish the best for both of them. I hope they enjoy their life, maybe together, maybe not — most likely not,” Trump said.
Last fall, in the run-up to the U.S. election, Swift posted a photo alongside her cat Benjamin Button and told her 283 million followers on Instagram that she was “voting for Kamala Harris.”
Days after her endorsement of Harris, Trump took to his Truth Social platform and declared, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
During a call-in to Fox & Friends, Trump predicted Swift would “probably pay a price for (her support of Harris) … in the marketplace.”
Swift seemed to laugh off the razzing Sunday night and her celebrity pal Serena Williams, who was later seen dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track Not Like Us during the halftime show, came to her defence.
“I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those booo(s)!!” the 23-time Grand Slam winner wrote on X.
But even though she got a frosty reception in New Orleans, Swift has been good for NFL business. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt recently told CNBC she has been a benefit for the whole league.
“Well, I think indirectly, the NFL has seen an impact,” he said. “Certainly, our fan base took a big leap forward last year — particularly with female, specifically young female fans. I think we had something like a 30% growth in our fan base, which is pretty significant even for a team that won the Super Bowl. So you have to definitely give Taylor a little bit of credit for that… We still get a lot of eyeballs — this year, we’ve had several games and broken records, and I think Taylor is a little bit a part of that.”
