The province’s police watchdog is probing the takedown of a teen in Brampton.

The Special Investigations Unit said it is investigating two Peel Regional Police officers after an incident Sunday at about 3:20 a.m. involving a 15-year-old boy in the city’s Oaklea Blvd. area.

The SIU said officers were responding to a weapon-related call and found a distressed male with a knife. The officers deployed “anti-riot weapon” rounds, while three other officers discharged their Tasers.

The teen was taken to a hospital, but the SIU said he was not seriously injured.

The SIU said three investigators have been assigned to the case.

Commercial property torched in Kitchener

Police are investigating the torching of a business last week in Kitchener’s east end.

Waterloo Regional Police said officers responded to reports of a structure fire Friday at about 9:30 p.m. in the Frederick-Bruce Sts. area. The blaze, which dissipated before first responders arrived, caused “significant damage” to a building and business.

No injuries were reported.

Police said an unknown male was seen on CCTV footage igniting a structure.

Business robbed in Kitchener

Cops are hunting for a suspect after a business was robbed in Kitchener’s south end.

Waterloo Regional Police said officers were dispatched to investigate a robbery Saturday at about 6:45 p.m. in the Block Line Rd.-Homer Watson Blvd. area after an unknown thief entered a business and was spotted taking merchandise.

He was confronted by a staff member, but threatened to harm the victim and fled before police arrived.

The suspect is a white male in his mid-to-late teens with long blond hair.
