A ‘controlled explosion’ was executed after Second World War ammunition was found in a garden of a house in a Cotswolds village. Gloucestershire Police were alerted to the incident this afternoon (Feb 9) following its discovery by a local resident.

A spokesperson for the force stated: “A controlled explosion took place in Leonard Stanley earlier this afternoon following the discovery of a suspected WW2 ammunition round in the garden of a property.”

They added: “Officers were called to Bath Road at around 3.15pm after the item was discovered by a local resident and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was informed.”

The spokesperson also noted that several nearby properties were evacuated as a safety measure, but residents have since been allowed to return home. “Several nearby properties were evacuated as a safety precaution and local residents have now been able to return to their homes. We would like to thank the public for their co-operation during what may have been a concerning time,” reports Gloucestershire Live.
