A Toronto cop is facing charges after a man was injured while riding a scooter in a Canadian Tire parking lot in Whitby last year.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit said in a news release on Saturday that officers with Toronto Police were looking for a man in Whitby on the evening of June 25, 2024.
According to investigators, officers located the man while he was riding a scooter.
The SIU alleges an officer driving an unmarked police vehicle collided with the scooter in the parking lot. One of the two scooter riders, an 18-year-old man, was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Following an investigation, Det.-Const. Joshua Baksh is facing charges of dangerous driving and assault with a weapon.
“As the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation,” the province’s police watchdog said.
The accused is required to appear in an Oshawa courtroom on March 12.
