Comedian Ricky Gervais has made his feelings on “woke culture” crystal clear after facing questions about his act on social media.
Gervais’s latest comments on political correctness come days after he sparked controversy by mocking Jaden Smith’s castle-shaped hat at the 2025 Grammy Awards with a reference to Will Smith’s infamous Oscars slap incident.
Earlier this week, the 63-year-old comedian took aim at both Jaden and his mother Jada Pinkett Smith in a post on social media platform X.
His tweet referenced Chris Rock’s notorious joke about Jada’s alopecia that led to Will Smith slapping the comedian at the 2022 Academy Awards.
Jaden Smith, 26, drew widespread attention at Sunday’s Grammy Awards with his elaborate black hat shaped like a castle.
The unusual headpiece quickly became a talking point on social media, with users comparing it to “a haunted Minecraft building” and “a rejected Zoom background”.

Others likened the distinctive accessory to “a Halloween outfit for a 5 year old”.
The bold fashion choice by Will Smith’s son dominated conversations about the ceremony’s red carpet appearances – along with Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori’s “naked” display.
Taking to X, Gervais responded to a photo of Jaden in his attention-grabbing headwear with the comment: “Maybe he’s bald like his mum.”
Fans praised the putdown as “absolute gold” and “already the best post of the year”, but it also garnered criticism for mocking the condition.
Same as always. Annoy the losers 😂

On Thursday night, a few days after the Smith family remarks, Gervais returned to the social media site when one X user questioned whether or not his comedy would be able to continue in today’s PC era.
“Now that woke culture is dying what’s Ricky Gervais gonna do with his ‘edgy’ comedy act,” the X user typed.
Catching Gervais’s eye, the 63-year-old simply replied with the six-word statement: “Same as always. Annoy the losers.”
Gervais followed his post up with a laughing emoji and before long, fans rushed to applaud the comic for refusing to bow to the pressures of “woke culture”.
“I suspect there will be plenty of material,” one follower replied before a second echoed: “Plenty of woke in Europe and Canada, and I’m sure elsewhere!”
“The jokes practically write themselves too,” a third agreed before a fourth weighed in: “Keep poking regardless Rickster, it’s what you were born to do son..”
