An investigation into the disappearance of a mother-of-two from Co Meath has been upgraded to a murder investigation.

A search is being carried out at a house in Navan on Friday as part of the reclassified investigation.

Elizabeth Clarke, 24, who lived in Navan, has not been seen since 2013.

She had previously lived in both Portrane and Bettystown, Co Meath, with her family, who officially reported her missing in January 2015.

A “sustained” investigation has been carried out into her disappearance, led by a team at Navan Garda Station.

Gardai have previously carried out extensive inquiries, including house-to-house checks, and land, canal and river searches.

The latest search at the house in Navan is being led by the Meath Serious Crime Hub based at Navan Garda Station, supported by the Meath divisional search team and Garda National Technical Bureau.

Gardai said the search operation has the support of other state expertise, including a forensic archaeologist if required.

The family of Ms Clarke are being kept fully updated on the investigation, gardai said.

A fresh appeal has been issued to those with information about her disappearance to come forward.

“Do not assume that An Garda Siochana either know that information and/or that it has limited value. Let the investigation team make that assessment,” gardai said in a statement.

“Given the time-frame of this investigation, Gardai are asking the public that if they have any information in relation to the disappearance and murder of Elizabeth and for some reason held back on information they may have had, to come forward now.

“An Garda Siochana wish to reassure them that they will be treated sensitively.”
