McDonald’s has officially confirmed the rumours that the Shamrock Shake is coming to the UK. Fans won’t have long to wait, as it’s coming next month for St Patrick’s Day.
After the viral success of the Grimace Shake, which sold out rapidly, Brits will now have the opportunity to savour another American favourite with the introduction of the Shamrock Shake. The peppermint-flavoured delight is sure to captivate customers with its distinctive green colour.
The minty delight will be available for a limited two-week period starting from March 12. However, it’s only up for grabs while stocks last, so there’s a high chance it may sell out before the promotion ends.
While no specific price was shared in the announcement, the previous blueberry-flavoured Grimace Shake was sold at £2.69 for a medium and £2.99 for a large. So, it’s likely that the Shamrock Shake could have similar pricing.
McDonald’s fans will also do their bit for charity when ordering the shake. Participating outlets will donate 20p from each Shamrock Shake sale to Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, the fast-food giant’s charity initiative that offers complimentary ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with hospitalised children, reports Lancs Live.
The Shamrock Shake, a beloved staple on the American McDonald’s menu in honour of St Patrick’s Day, has been delighting taste buds since the 1970s. Despite its limited appearances outside the US, it has garnered a global cult following, with several homemade recipes circulating online.
However, Brits can now anticipate savouring the authentic experience very soon. However, promotional pictures suggest that the British drink won’t have the signature whipped cream topping that the Americans have.
In August 2024, the UK was sent into a whirlwind when the Grimace Shake first appeared at British McDonald’s drive-thrus. The sudden sell-out across most of the country led to calls for a second release, which did happen in December 2024.
McDonald’s customers can enjoy the new shake alongside the existing special menu, featuring items such as the Philly Cheese Stack, McCrispy BBQ Smokehouse and the Katsu Chicken One Wrap. The hot Raspberry and White Chocolate Pie and the Mars McFlurry are also on offer for those with a sweet tooth.
