Lidl is recalling a number of snacks because they could cause a burning sensation in the mouth. The discount supermarket is recalling two Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzel products because they may cause a burning sensation when eaten, potentially causing discomfort and making them unsafe to the consumer.
Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. The notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought them. The Food Standards Agency said: “If you have bought any of the products do not consume them. Instead, return them to the nearest Lidl store for a full refund.”

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.

Lidl is a German international discount supermarket chain that has grown into one of the largest retailers in the world. Lidl was founded in Germany by Josef Schwar in 1930.. Initially, it was a wholesale grocery business called Lidl & Schwarz KG.
The first modern Lidl store opened in Ludwigsburg, Germany in 1973. Inspired by the discount retail model of Aldi, Lidl focused on low prices and a limited range of products.
By the 1980s, Lidl had expanded rapidly across West Germany, offering a no-frills shopping experience. Lidl expanded across Europe in the 1990s and 2000s, entering countries like France, the UK, Spain, and Italy. The retailer focused on private-label goods, reducing costs and offering high-quality products at lower prices.
Lidl continued expanding beyond Europe, entering the United States in 2017, competing with other discount chains like Aldi and Walmart. Today, Lidl operates in over 30 countries, with more than 12,000 stores worldwide.
