Some viewers of Call The Midwife assumed a new character was in the IRA because he was from Northern Ireland, one of the show’s actors has claimed.

A number of fans of the hit BBC drama believed Roger Noble, played by Conor O’Donnell, was in the republican terror group on account of his heritage.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Megan Cusack – who plays Roger’s love interest Nancy Corrigan – admitted she was surprised by the false assumption.

“It was really rogue seeing all the comments (saying) just because (Roger) was from Northern Ireland he was part of the IRA,” she said.

The Cork-born actress said the opinion was a widely shared belief among fans leading to “loads of comments about it!”
