A 19-year-old driver has been sentenced to over four years in jail for a 2024 collision that killed an 18-year-old woman and seriously injured three others in King Township.

York Regional Police say Denrick Rose was found guilty on Monday of dangerous operation after the car he was driving was found to be going more than 200 km/h before the crash.

The Brampton man was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison and given a ten-year driver’s licence suspension.

Cops say on Feb. 18, 2024, shortly before 7 a.m., officers arrived at the intersection of King Rd. and 8th Concession for a single vehicle collision.

At the scene, police found a black Infiniti G37 had struck a light pole and of the six occupants inside the vehicle, a female was pronounced dead at the scene, three others suffered serious injuries and the driver was uninjured.

On Feb. 27, 2024, Rose was charged with three counts each of dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm and failure to comply with a release order.

At the time of the collision, Rose was on a release order for previous unrelated charges and he has remained in custody since his arrest.

Police are reminding the public that excessive speed is the most common contributing factor to fatal collisions.
