Newcastle legend Alan Shearer couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Arsenal icon Ian Wright following Alexander Isak’s commanding performance in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final.
Shearer took to social media to taunt his fellow pundit, posting: “Hey @IanWright0 talk to me about our boy Isak against your 2 centre backs!!! #NEWARS”
The Magpies’ record goalscorer was particularly impressed with how Isak handled Arsenal’s celebrated defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba.
“That was a proper performance man. Arsenal couldn’t live with the intensity,” Shearer added. “Better than them tonight in every position.”

Newcastle secured their place in the Carabao Cup final with a commanding victory over Arsenal in the second leg of their semi-final tie.
The Magpies added two more goals to their 2-0 aggregate advantage from the first leg.
Jacob Murphy opened the scoring on the night in the 19th minute, before Anthony Gordon added a second to make it 4-0 on aggregate.
It marks Newcastle’s second Carabao Cup final appearance in three seasons, having previously fallen to Manchester United in 2023.
Swedish striker Isak, who has been linked with Arsenal in recent months, thought he had given Newcastle an early lead in the fourth minute.

His fine finish was ultimately ruled out for offside.
The forward continued to torment Arsenal’s defence, striking the post after 19 minutes, with Murphy converting the rebound to break the deadlock.
Isak, who had already found the net in the first leg, maintained his influential presence throughout the match.
His performance against Arsenal’s highly-rated defensive duo proved crucial as Eddie Howe’s side secured their place at Wembley.
Newcastle will face either Liverpool or Tottenham in the final at Wembley on March 16.
The two sides meet for their second leg at Anfield on Thursday, with Spurs holding a one-goal advantage from the first encounter.
