Ana Maria Markovic, a Croatian international who has been dubbed the “world’s most beautiful footballer,” has walked away from her club just months after joining.
Markovic, who had previously played for Swiss teams FC Zurich and Grasshoppers, had her contract with SC Braga cancelled this week after having joined the Portuguese side in the summer.
This also comes just days after she admitted that “sometimes I just hate football,” in a post on TikTok.
The 25-year-old forward also had posted a clip last month showing herself saying goodbye to boyfriend and fellow footballer Tomas Ribeiro.
Ribeiro, a defender, moved from Portuguese top-flight outfit Vitoria Guimaraes to Farnese during the winter transfer window.
While Braga and Guimaraes are just 25 kms apart, Farnese is located on the other side of the country.
“Sometimes I just hate football,” Markovic posted with a clip for herself crying.
“Good luck bubi, you will do amazing and I can’t wait to see your games,” she added following Ribeiro’s move.
Markovic, who made just four appearances with Braga and failed to score a goal, has now seen her contract terminated “by mutual agreement.”
“SC Braga informs that the Club and Ana Maria Marković have terminated, by mutual agreement, the contract that united the two parties,” a club statement read.
“The Croatian international played four games for the Gverreiras do Minho in her debut season in Portuguese football.
“SC Braga thanks you for all the dedication, commitment and professionalism with which you have always represented the Club and wishes you all the best in your professional and personal future.”
Markovic, who has won 20 caps for the Croatian national team in her career, has been cryptic about her next move.
She made a tribute post to thank her Braga teammates and fans for their support, but hasn’t provided any hints about her future.
“Sometimes things don’t go as planned. After just half a season, I decided to leave SC Braga. It was a short but intense journey with ups and downs, but one in which I was able to grow and develop a lot as a footballer,” she wrote on Instagram.
“The best part? Definitely my teammates! Thank you for your support, team spirit, and all the great moments on and off the pitch – you are amazing!
“A big thank you to the club for their professionalism throughout my time here and to the fans, for the support. The journey continues and I’m excited for what’s next!”
