A survey has shown that a staggering eight out of 10 parents believe bedwetting significantly impacts their children, leading to issues such as fatigue, reluctance to attend school, and sinking confidence.
The research surveyed parents of 4 to 7 year olds and found that nearly 60 per cent of youngsters who have wet the bed in the past 12 months were impacted negatively.
Over two-thirds of these children reportedly displayed reduced confidence at school, while 84 per cent of parents observed their child’s general confidence had deteriorated.
The survey also showed that the problem extends beyond academic settings too, with many children feeling too anxious to participate in sleepovers, playdates, or birthday events due to the possibility of bedwetting.
Around 34 per cent of parents said their children experienced bed wetting up to three times a week, with 91 per cent noting it disrupts their child’s sleep—contributing to a continued cycle of tiredness and lack of confidence.
Many parents are already using strategies to manage bedwetting, such as waterproof mattresses, limiting liquids before bedtime and using protective underwear.
However, most acknowledge the need for more resources, especially ones that can help with the emotional impact bedwetting can have on their kids.
Paediatrician, TV personality, and author Dr. Ranj Singh highlighted that school and social activities play a key role in a child’s development and remarked that it was “essential that parents and carers feel equipped to help support their children during periods of bedwetting to ensure no child misses out.”
He has teamed up with Pampers Ninjamas to emphasise the importance of addressing bedwetting issues.
The brand launched its “Back to School with a Boost” campaign six months ago to help support the emotional wellbeing of children and equip parents with better resources.
The initiative has reached over 64,000 children nationally, and the brand has collaborated with more than 600 schools.
In line with Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, the brand held a Confidence Boosting Workshop with St Robert Southwell RC Primary School to demonstrate the positive outcomes of their initiative.
Dr. Kimberley, one of the experts involved, highlighted the importance of open communication: “I am so proud to be helping parents and carers create a safe, non-judgmental space for communicating with their child.
“Ensuring that children feel supported at every step of their developmental journey, including periods of bedwetting for some children, can have a hugely positive impact on their confidence and wellbeing.”
