A warning has been issued for Richmond Hill residents to be on the lookout for some sticky bandits who have been targeting condos and apartments for break-ins.
York Regional Police say two incidents have so far been reported involving crooks who have “surreptitiously” gained entrance into buildings during the early morning hours.
“The (bandits) applied a glue-like substance on unit doors throughout the building,” Const. James Dickson said in a statement Wednesday, explaining they “also took steps to prevent communal exits from locking properly in order to gain future access to the buildings.”
He said the crooks then returned later to “examine the condition of the glue to determine if the units were occupied before committing break and enters.”
“Owners and tenants should be aware of this crime technique and report any suspicious persons or activities to police and to their condo management or building superintendent,” Dickson advised.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7244, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
