Police are appealing for witnesses after a handbag was taken from a woman’s shoulder in Belfast city centre.

The incident took place at around 2am on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said” “A male and female were walking along Royal Avenue, near to the junction of William Street, when two males approached them.

“These males took the handbag from the female’s shoulder and ran off in the direction of Donegall Street.”

They asked anyone who witnessed the theft to come forward.

“The males are described as being in their early 30s, both approximately 5’10 in height,” the spokesperson added.

“One of the males was holding a white plastic bag. Both males had their hoods up and were wearing dark clothing with baggy hoodies.

“If anyone witnessed this incident or observed two males running in this area at this time, please make contact with Police by ringing 101 and quote reference number CC2025020400074.”
