A Barrie man has been charged in a deadly shooting that occurred last summer in Woodbridge.
And York Regional Police say they are still looking for a second suspect in the “targeted” killing.
Officers responded to the shooting at a home near Islington and Kiloran Aves. – south of Rutherford Rd. – shortly after 2 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2024.
“When officers arrived, a man was located in his driveway suffering from gunshot wounds,” Const. James Dickson said Wednesday.
The victim was rushed to a trauma centre where he died.
He was later identified as 57-year-old Jorge Ivan Navas.
An obituary on arbormemorial.ca says Navas was “an avid golfer and sports memorabilia collector” who had attended the University of Toronto and Seneca College before going on to work as a financial accountant.
“His greatest joy was spending time with his daughter,” the obit states, explaining the victim’s daughter was eight years old when he was killed.
Investigators subsequently determined that two people arrived at the residence in a stolen black F-150 – a vehicle that Dickson said has since been recovered.
One suspect was identified and taken into custody on Jan. 29.
Bradley Johnston, 33, of Barrie, is charged with first-degree murder.
