The last motorbike ridden by Hairy Biker Dave Myers is selling for £10,000. The popular TV star died in February last year, aged 66, after losing a cancer battle. He and his sidekick, Si King, had just seen their final series air.
The Hairy Bikers Go West saw the pair reunite to travel down the west coast of the UK, starting in Scotland and ending in Devon. Shortly after Myers’ death, the pair’s final ride was broadcast to the nation in a fitting tribute to the star.
Now, the bike ridden by Myers will be heading to auction on 26 March at the National Motorcycle Museum, in Solihull, West Midlands. The BSA Goldstar has a retail price of around £8,000, with hopes of the sale reaching over the £10,000 mark.
The proceeds will go to two charities close to Myers’ heart – the NSPCC and the Institute for Cancer Research. BSA Goldstars were first produced in 1938 and gained popularity in the 1950s. It is kitted out with a 652cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve engine with twin spark plugs.
It also possesses an impressive 45bhp. Fans wanting to bid are now encouraged to register for the auction.
A BSA spokesperson said: “By taking part in the auction, you’re not only giving yourself a shot at owning a piece of Hairy Bikers history, but you’re also making a real difference. Join us in honouring Dave’s legacy and supporting two causes that are making the world a better place.
