Sainsbury’s customers are excited to snap up a spring-inspired confectionery that promises an unexpected – and apparently “accidental” – perk.
Supermarket favourite Sainsbury’s is cherished for its premium and diverse selection of foodstuffs, cleaning agents, household necessities, homeware, and plenty else.
In step with its competitors, Sainsbury’s launches seasonal merchandise aligned with the shifting seasons and significant calendar festivities, like Valentine’s Day, Easter and others.
Even though Valentine’s Day is imminent, Sainsbury’s has already unveiled enticing spring treats, gearing up for the balmy days and Easter celebrations ahead. Its latest coffee and chocolate flavoured hot cross buns have whipped up quite the intrigue – largely because they’re “accidentally” vegan.
For the uninitiated, “accidentally vegan” is a term used to describe products that end up vegan not by intentional marketing or design but by happenstance. A few unexpected vegan finds include Oreos; Skittles; Bourbon biscuits; numerous Walkers crisps varieties; Chilli Heatwave and Lightly Salted Doritos; Lotus biscoff biscuits and spread; Beef and Tomato, Bombay Bad Boy, Sweet and Sour, and Southern Fried Chicken Pot Noodles; among others.
Sainsbury’s has launched a new twist on the traditional hot cross bun treat with its Coffee and Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns, delighting taste buds for £1.80 per pack of four. The delectable new product caught the attention of the much-followed Vegan Food UK Instagram account, which showcased the tasty-looking snack along with the caption: “SPOTTED ALREADY! Coffee and Chocolate Flavour Buns. Have you found these yet? What do you think to the flavour?
“We friggin LOVE that hot cross Buns are usually accidentally vegan (and if they’re not then the manufacturers are missing out on a huge market quite frankly!) Apparently they are divine tasting too! First reviews gives them a 10/10. These cost £1.80 at Sainsbury’s.”
Fellow Instagrammers were quick to jump into the comments section to express their eagerness. One person enthused: “Omg can’t wait to get my hands on these.”
Another individual shared their satisfaction: “They’re so good too!! And I also saw a cinnamon and brown sugar flavour that looked vegan,” while another remarked: “Wow I’m going to get them.”
One commenter already anticipated a shopping spree, saying: “I’m gonna need to stock up on these!” However, not everyone was sold on the combination; one noted a reservation about an ingredient: “Oh chocolate yes – coffee not so sure.”
Humour was also in the mix, with one shopper quipping: “Omg, I’m getting fat again [crying laughing emoji] they look amazing,” and another planning a creative dessert idea: “Will absolutely be making a bread and butter pudding out of these.”
Several users simply tagged their friends in the post, nudging them to take a look at Sainsbury’s latest offering.
The product description on the Sainsbury’s website details the treats are “made with sultanas, dark chocolate chips and coffee powder”. The buns also boast a “hand-crossed” design and are “made with a sourdough starter”, while “the dough is enhanced with Brazilian Coffee, cocoa powder, molasses and juicy sultanas.”
