Seven men face numerous charges following a Peel Regional Police project targeting illegal activity in the Hurontario-Dundas Sts. area of Mississauga.
Cops said Project Due Diligence began on Nov. 28 in response to increasing complaints about narcotics trafficking and lawless behaviour in the area, contributing to violent incidents affecting local businesses and residents.
“We recognized the significant impact that the lawless public behaviour of some individuals was having on our residents and local businesses in the Cooksville area,” Peel Regional Police Supt. Harry Dhillon, commander of 12 Division, said in a statement.
“As a result, our newly launched 12 CIRT (Community Incident Response Team) initiated a project which resulted in numerous charges and these individuals being held accountable. The project also allowed us to build relationships with local residents and businesses to ensure we keep an open dialogue of the concerns they are facing,”
Officers executed several search warrants that saw “large quantities” of illegal cannabis and suspected cocaine seized along with more than $50,000.
Among those charged are:
— Kingsley Kelly, 56, of Mississauga, who was wanted for other offences, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling and assault with a weapon.
— Kyle Williams, 22, of Mississauga, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) and possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling.
— Glenroy Neubie, 35, of Brampton, was charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling and three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.
— John-Ross Harris, 38, of Mississauga, was charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling.
— Amir Abuhmaid, 25, of Mississauga, was charged with possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine) and theft under $5,000.
— Craig Dhu, 31, of Mississauga, was charged with obstructing police and possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling.
— Ralph Nembhard, 32, of Brampton, was charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling.
Cops said they are subject to court-ordered conditions prohibiting them from being within a significant distance of the Hurontario-Dundas area.
