Knife crime is something close to my heart, in 1991 my father was dragged from our family pub by a machete gang and killed, no one was ever been prosecuted.
Now, this was over 30 years ago and the pain is still there, but my life also took many twists and turns because of knife crime, which I now believe is at epidemic levels in the UK.
The recent Axel Rudakubana case has highlighted how easy it is to get knives online, but for me, this is well down on the line of importance.
The lack of deterrent for carrying a knife is much more impactful. A simple search of Google will show you just how many machete carriers have been let off with suspended sentences.
Take the man who threatened a Jewish supermarket with a rambo knife and escaped jail. We can lock up people for hurty words on the internet, but deem a machete or rambo knife carrier less of a threat to society!
Our judicial system is broken. It has become cool to carry a zombie knife, machete or sword, with social media videos circulating daily of gang fights and huge weapons in full view. It is truly terrifying, especially to fathers like myself, who know what is out there on our streets.
This Government is trying to gain good PR by hitting knife sales from Amazon, but these knives are in every household kitchen draws. It won’t do anything. We need a deterrent and I will be joining ex-Police Officer Norman Brennan to petition the Government online in coming weeks.
We are calling for a mandatory 5-year sentence for carrying a knife, no appeals, straight to prison, with minors getting a 3-year mandatory sentence also.

Trust me, as an ashamed knife carrier in my distant past, due to being stabbed multiple times, this will put the fear of god into those carrying simply for self defence or vanity. It will send a harsh message, as the first few youths are video-d saying goodbye to loved ones for their 3-year sentence. Take it from me, knife carrying rates will drop within weeks, so why aren’t any MPs saying this?
We have a huge gang culture problem in our capital.
There is a serious issue and black community leaders and gym trainers thank me for highlighting this and pushing my KNIVES DOWN message so hard.
I have used my large social media platform to put out interviews, podcasts and posts highlighting the dangers of carrying a knife.
I have recently fought in front of 5000 people on Misfits Boxing with my Knives Down message on the back of my shorts. I simply want to try and make a difference and if I dissuade one youth from carrying, it was worth it.
Our streets are like warzones, yet our politicians do not understand the problem, so we need a harsh response from the police, stepping up stop and search and smashing the street gangs who are terrorising our communities.
But that’s not the only issue, we have nice kids, good kids carrying knives through fear, they are an accident waiting to happen, too many drinks or drugs and these kids could end up taking a life unintentionally.
That’s why we need education in schools, frighten the kids, teach them the consequences of these crimes, take them to a prison, let the reality hit home.
If we couple the stop and search, mandatory sentences, education in schools, visits to prisons and chats from bereaved families with a huge national PR campaign, we could save thousands of lives.
That is my solution, one that is far better than any Governments advisor, trust me.
PLEASE LISTEN KEIR, I’VE LIVED AND BREATHED THIS PROBLEM. It’s time to get tough – PUT THE KNIVES DOWN
