Actress Michelle Keegan has given insight into her marriage and first pregnancy with Mark Wright, saying their lives are “very boring and probably quite basic”. The former Coronation Street star announced that she was expecting her first baby with husband Mark Wright, at the end of last year.

In an Instagram post showing off her baby bump, the couple wrote: “2025 is going to be a special one for us…” In an interview with Grazia, Keegan opened up about her life with Wright, who she calls her “best friend”. The couple will celebrate their 10 year anniversary this May.

They had previously discussed how to celebrate the milestone, but with Keegan’s pregnancy, she said “We’ve got new priorities”. With both being in the entertainment and television industry, they can often spend long stretches of time apart whilst working on respective projects, sometimes they may be on opposite sides of the globe.

Keegan shared the way the couple manage with the time apart and sometimes demanding work schedules: “We never make each other feel bad about being away for work,” she explained. “And even though there has been negativity surrounding that in the press, we never let it affect our relationship.”

She added that they try to not let their jobs rule their lives: “Mark and I feel lucky to work in this industry, but it doesn’t dominate our lives,” she shares. “We dip our toe in, then step back to normal life. It’s very boring and probably quite basic, but that’s how I like it.”

Speaking on what type of parent she wants to be when her first child arrives, the 37-year-old said her own parents have influenced her a lot. She describes her mum as her “best friend” but emphasised the importance of respect and discipline as well.

Once filming wraps up on series ‘Brassic’, she will be taking maternity leave: “I’m going to take a good chunk of time off to enjoy being a mum,” she said.

“I’m never normally at home in the summer, I’ve always been away working, so I can’t wait.”
