A man has been left wondering what he saw after a mystery object flew over his home. Richard Grecian says he often enjoys looking up into the clear skies about his home in St Ives, Cambridgeshire but nothing prepared him for the strange vision towards the end of last year.
He told how as a “big believer” in UFOs he often looked to see if there was anything unusual around. Then on November 27 at 5.30pm he saw something out of the ordinary.
He said: “it was dark and as a believer I love looking up in the skies especially at night and on that night I looked up to see this huge thing slowly and silently flying across our house. It was only about 200ft up on the sky so it was very low and about the size of a football pitch
“It had a row of lights across the front of it but by the time I got my phone out to record it I only managed to record it from underneath it for about 13 seconds.”
Unfortunately the camera only caught the object faintly but by looking carefully you can see the lights underneath the big black shape. But Richard said it had been clear in the sky to the naked eye.
Figures show there were nearly 2,000 UFOs been spotted over the UK in the last four years – this interactive map reveals the locations most likely to be visited by suspected aliens. It also shows what was seen by the person who reported it.
In June 2023 another unusual sight was spotted above St Ives. The white-blue star which was much brighter than other suddenly “turned off” then reappeared elsewhere with the same intensity then vanished.
There have been a number of other nearby sightings including “orbs”. And in St Neots, just 15 miles away, on July 24, 2023, a “bizarre flying shape” was seen. The reports said it was “circular and black travelling at a steady speed and flight path. Object seemed to have lights on it”.
Last year the research group UFO Identified documented 395 sightings in the UK in 2023 in its annual report. This was a 20% fall from the 497 sightings in 2022 and lower than in 2021 (413) and 2020 (484).
