BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent delighted viewers with a glimpse into her past during Tuesday’s programme. The 53-year-old presenter was chatting with sports correspondent John Watson when she revealed a humorous tidbit from her younger days.
The conversation turned personal after John discussed tennis star Emma Raducanu playing without a coach at the Abu Dhabi Open, noting: “It’s the second competition since parting ways with her coach, who opted to step down.”
When co-host Jon Kay playfully suggested Sally could be a coach, she quipped: “No! Can you imagine me?! I’d be the worst. My mum was a tennis coach and she completely gave up on me. I was a disaster!”
Jon couldn’t contain his laughter, responding: “I don’t believe it for a minute.” The show also teased an upcoming appearance by Cyndi Lauper, leading Jon and Sally to encourage weather presenter Carol Kirkwood to sing.
Sally urged: “Come on, Carol, give us a tune!” Carol, however, declined with a laugh: “On your bike Sal! No chance of that.”
Despite jokingly promising to save the audience ‘from that misery’, it appeared Sally and Jon may have been too engrossed in their banter to pay attention to Carol’s weather update, reports the Express.
The studio sequence shifted to a candid moment as Jon admitted to Carol after her forecast: “I didn’t hear a word of that because we were gossiping.”
Carol found his bluntness amusing before Sally shared the cause of their inattention, saying: “There’s a reason! I’m really sorry, I’ve just been talking over Jon the entire time. We’ve been chatting because Cyndi Lauper is here!
During their exciting interview with the music icon, Cyndi disclosed to Jon and Sally that insomnia had her awake from 1am. Jon and Sally weren’t the only ones enthralled by Cyndi Lauper’s appearance, as social media users promptly expressed their delight.
One Twitter user proclaimed: “That was an absolute delightful treat: watching iconic Cyndi Lauper! Thanks #BBCBreakfast #CyndiLauper #80s”, while another simply stated, “Cyndi Lauper…..Icon.”
A fan remarked: “Cyndi Lauper fully on top of her game on #BBCBreakfast. Such a legend. Would love to meet her for lunch, I bet she has some cracking stories to tell #cyndilauper #girlsjustwannahavefun”
Another declared: “Cyndi Lauper one of the genuine ones..” Someone else wrote:”Cyndi Lauper. Crazy cool.”
