Spencer Matthews has revealed how wife Vogue Williams feels as he prepares to leave the family home for “weeks”.

The former Made in Chelsea star completed a gruelling 30 marathons in 30 days across Jordan in Africa last year. It meant the 36-year-old left wife Vogue “holding the fort” and looking after their three children – Theodore, six, Gigi, four, and Otto, two.

Having made the Guinness Book of Records with the impressive feat, Spencer is now planning his next endurance challenge. He wants to complete seven Ironman triathlons, one in each continent, finishing in Antarctica.

An Ironman sees competitors swimming 2.4-miles (3.9 km), cycling 112-mile (180.2 km), and then running a 26.2-mile (42.2 km) marathon. Only one other person has completed the challenge, although it is believed to have taken four years, not a matter of weeks.

The epic challenge would mean Vogue would once again be left looking after their children solo. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Spencer explains Vogue is supportive of the challenge, because he is setting an “epic” example for their children.

He explained she too is busy, juggling her television, radio and podcast work with other projects. Spencer said: “It’s not as if Vogue is just sitting at home waiting. Vogue works 12-hour days, but we are a team – and we’re lucky to have grandparents down the road who pitch in.

“We are at the time in our life where driving forward and building stuff is important. It would be easy to sit back and look after the kids and relax and not do too much. But I don’t think it is possible to achieve something extraordinary by behaving in an ordinary way.”

Spencer revealed Vogue thought his epic journey across Jordan would “kill him”. The star says Vogue questioned if he was “ever going to do anything like this again?” He responded: “I said: ‘Well, I’d love to do something like this every year for the next ten years.'”

When discussing his Ironman plans, Spencer told Deadline: “This is without doubt ambitious – but what I have discovered is a love of pushing myself, and of achieving what would have previously been unachievable to me. Running 30 consecutive marathons earlier this year [2024] opened my eyes to what the human mind and body is capable of.

“Despite the gruelling conditions, I fell even more in love with running. As soon as I crossed the finish line I was itching for the next challenge.”
